Sylvan Brandt
07/03/1928-07/05/1998

In 1960, Sylvan Brandt was a hard working man at a nearby factory. But his $65 a week job wasn't enough to provide for his family. One day he and a friend were reading the newspaper and found a beautiful old stone house and barn ready for demolition. Neither of them had any experience in salvaging, but they saw an opportunity to make ends meet. When they finished salvaging what they believed to be of value, both men put an ad in the paper. To their surprise, they sold the doors and porch posts and pretty much everything!

Now, for more than 40 years, Sylvan Brandt's has grown to specialize in a business of saving the finest vintage lumber from 17th and 18th Century barns and houses to milling the lumber into unique and characteristic floorboards. In addition, Sylvan Brandt also reclaims old doors, windows, hinges, and other hardware and architectural elements from these old buildings that would otherwise be destroyed.

Today, Sylvan's son Dean runs the family business along with the Crew. He is proud to continue the tradition which his father began.
